Code: AAT/19/179 Building a Comprehensive Reading Culture - South Yorkshire

Creating a culture of reading must be a clear priority for every school. From September 2019, the new Ofsted framework will assess how ‘reading is prioritised to allow pupils to access the full curriculum offer within every school.’ This ongoing CPD programme will walk leaders through how to develop an inspirational and cohesive strategy to reading across their school. Colleagues will return to school with an action that addresses:

- How to establish a whole school reading strategy, primary or secondary;
- How to ensure every models core reading skills and builds comprehension through questioning and activities;
- How to close the vocabulary gap within all curriculum areas;
- How to set up and monitor reading intervention programmes for phonics and fluency;
- How to create an inspirational school library that sits at the heart of the curriculum.

Given the priority around reading wiht the new Oftsed framework, it is essential that every academy has at least one of its leaders on this CPD programme.
